Whether you’re doing hip hop or soul, the surest way to establishing your name in the music industry continues to be the same: you should make your beats along with maintaining your own brand of music.

Naturally, the idea of making your own beats can be quite daunting. Still, you must do your best to see this as a challenge rather than allowing it to discourage you from pursuing your dreams.

Making Your Beats Count…Start by Mastering Your Genre

Of course, don’t take this advice to the extreme and challenge yourself into developing a totally new genre. While that’s certainly doable, you might need to widen your repertoire a bit before taking on that goal. Meanwhile, there is nothing wrong with devoting your precious time to enhancing your skills and expanding your mastery of your preferred genre. Examine the creations of your friends and see if they motivate you into producing your own beats.

Dedicating your time to excel in your genre means you’re already ahead of other debuting music artists as well as boosting your abilities as a musician.

One great thing about today’s music industry is the improved accessibility to equipment . Nowadays, affording the  technology for creating your own beats doesn’t necessarily have to cost you a fortune.

Producing the ideal beat for your music requires three important components: midi drums, audio loops, and bass line. These components appy to any kind of music so it’s important for you to understand how they function and what they can add to your music.

A song’s bass line is its underlying frame. It’s composed of a set of beats or notes that will be played from the song’s start to finish and which the other elements need to work with in order to maintain a sense of harmony.

You can devote as much time as you want improving your bass line. If your bass line doesn’t work, then the rest of the song won’t function either.

The second factor you have to consider is the audio loop. This is a common favorite among rap & hip hop creators. More often than not, they’re used for changing your music’s central theme or mood. To form one, you’ll just simply combine an array of notes from musical instruments or any other possible source of sound. With audio loops, you’re free to play and experiment in any way you wish until you hit upon the ideal set of beats.

Last but not the least, you need to create midi drum patterns which go well with the rest of the piece. You can use a single set or pattern of notes or combine different sets. You can do anything as long as it is enhancing instead of detracting from your work.

Often, midi drum patterns aren’t really a pattern at all. But instead, they are made up of a diverse set of beats and played as repeating loops and acting as something related to a secondary tier of music tune or beat.

To sum up: in crafting your beats, start with constructing a gripping bass line to stand as your music’s foundation then boosting it with well-developed audio loops as well as a single or several midi drum patterns.

Are you geared up to make your beats? Then don’t let anything keep you from producing cool music for the world to hear.
