Recently released, the Apple iPhone 4 is already Apple’s greatest sales achievement. Throughout the UK and US they are currently selling fast, but what about the iPhone 4 makes it so special? Let’s take a look at what this phone has over the competition.
Features
In addition to the newly released iOS 4 software which adds many great features including multitasking, the new iPhone 4 also offers many new features as well.
First there is the new “retina” display, boasting an eye popping 960×640 resolution screen with 326ppi (pixels per inch). This new screen shows sharper text and the clearest video of any phone out there. The new display also enables great angle viewing and is able to display 720p high definition video.
In addition to showing great video, the new iPhone 4 also takes great videos as well. While the new 5mp camera may not have the highest megapixel count out there, the software is what enables crystal clear pictures and video. Also with the addition of an LED flash your videos and pictures in low light come out clear as day.
The other great addition to the video capabilities of the new Apple iPhone 4 is a front facing camera. This addition allows video calls using a new feature called FaceTime. While it’s now only available for iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 calls it is a very cool feature that over the coming months will surely expand to include other phones and features in the future.
Internal Hardware
Now that we’ve looked at the new features you can see on the outside let’s look at what makes this phone outperform its competitors, the internal hardware. The new Apple iPhone 4 offers some of the most advanced hardware of any phone on the market.
The greatest hardware advancement in the new iPhone 4 is the processor, featuring Apple’s A4 chip it boasts speeds of 1ghz which is 400mhz faster than the iPhone 3GS. Also helping speed up the new iPhone is 512mb of ram compared to the iPhone 3GS’s 256mb. Just using the phone for a few minutes you can tell the amazing speed of the new handset.
One of the biggest complaints about most phones is the battery, and the Apple iPhone 4 features a battery that lasts 40% longer than the previous iPhone 3GS. While making the battery bigger and more powerful Apple also made the phone thinner, 24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS.
What helped enable the new iPhone 4 to be thinner than previous models was the new antenna design that integrated the phones antenna into the stainless steel band that runs along the edges of the phone. In addition to the glass front and back panels this new phone looks futuristic compared to other handsets.
Overall
Overall the Apple iPhone 4 is the greatest handset Apple has ever produced and their best selling product ever. With sales already in the 2 million range and stores struggling to keep them in stock worldwide, it will be a while before this phone is readily available everywhere.
With the new features and hardware the new iPhone is capable of more than ever at much faster speeds. The new antenna design also has shown to get better reception and the integrated Wireless N technology enables the fastest Wi-Fi speeds yet.
So if you can find one snap it up, there’s no telling how demand will affect availability and this is not a phone you’ll want to miss out on.

The iPhone seems to be selling more and more by the day, but just why is this? It helps that the ipod is there but the reason it sells is because of all of the technology crammed inside. The iPhone is a phone and I-pod all mixed in together and that is really only the beginning, It also has internet access, Facebook, E-mail, and the now famous App store. One of the good things about the App store is that it is every changing and always growing, part of the reason Apple have made so much money from it. Recently 02’s exclusive two year contract with Apple has run out and Vodaphone as well as Orange have both stepped in to snap up deals with them. They are both set to start selling the phone in the New Year. However are people going to buy the phone simply because another provider is set to sell the phone, it would seem that would be quite unlikely? People have a favourite provider that is certain so perhaps a few extra sales will be on the way in the New Year. Be warned, this phone is not cheap and you shouldnt touch it if you think for one second you wont be able to afford it, costs are important. The cost of the phone itself isn’t cheap and can be even worse if it breaks and you do not have something like Gadget Insurance. The only issue is that insurance is costly. Everyone drops the phone at one stage and it could be that you drop yours on concrete and it smashes. Personally I have dropped mine about five times and it has managed to survive so it is possible not to have insurance although I would reccomend it. Of course there are insurance policies available for a number of things from PDA insurance as well as the obvious iPhone insurance. Insurance in the long run could benefit you as gadgets are very expensive to actually replace.
Continue Reading »When the iPod first came out, it was regarded as Apple’s greatest saviour, and those people who did say that were spot on. The iPod has become the golden cash cow that all companies strive for in a product. Bring out any related 3rd party product and it will be snapped up.However, is it all that special? Sure it saves you from taking your computer around with you while you listen to your favourite MP3s, but so did a portable MP3 player. It looks good…so how does that help performance?
It has video playback! Hmm…I think I could be beaten here…however it has been found that under 6 million user have actually downloaded anything video related, that is 4% of users, so not a great success.
The iPod family is large, and expensive. The iPod suffle is the cheapest of the lot, however it has little in the way of usable features that make it stand out from the MP3 players…also no USB port. The Nanos do look nice, and show a little picture of your artists album, easy to see when in your pocket.
So I have devised 5 new ways on how to spruce up your iPod so that it actually seems like something worthwhile.Better iPod # 1.
Why have 4 GB when you are only going to store many hundreds of MP3s, impossible to hear on your 1 hour commute. Why not use the capacity to save your private work, documents or other sensitive information? The iPod however can not be used as a full time hardrive, it will break in a few weeks. Simply mount it in the Finder (turn on Enable Disk Use in the iPod section of iTunes preferences, and say install Mac OS X on it. If you’ve just completed a large installation, use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your OS X set-up to your iPod…just in case.Better iPod # 2.
DJ with your iPod. Set up the ultimate party playlist in iTunes, and sync it to your iPod. Plug it into the party amp with a mini jack lead, lock it out of harms way, and then party away. You should make up different playlists so that you can cater for different audiences.Better iPod # 3.
The iPod calendar. If you use iSync on your Mac to sync your iCal calendars, you will have appointments on the go. You can choose which iPod calendars you copy, including ones you’ve subscribed to as well as ones you’ve made yourself. You can’t sync to-do list items, but date events copy across ok. Go to Extras > calandar to view a month at a time on your iPod screen. Days with appointments are marked, and clicking on one will show you everything about that appointment.Better iPod # 4.
Better music encoding. The default encoding of tracks for iTunes is AAC 128kbps. This plays in iTunes and iPod but very little else. Consider raising the quality level of the encoder to 192kbps, open iTunes’ preferences and click importing. If you want more compatible encoded results, switch to MP3 encoding instead. Pick the highest quality, and use 192kbps, and variable bit rate.Better iPod # 5.
Accessing the iPod music files. There is a simple little bit of software that allows you to access the tracks (just say you lost the originals, obviously
), and it is called Audion (for Mac), which is now free. Launch Audion, connect your iPod and either click on the iPod icon or choose your iPods name from the iPod menu. The playlist window will show all the tracks on your iPod. You can drag files in, and you can drag items out. Want your own Techno tracks to put on iTunes? No money, no kit and no theory and in just 14 days? Author, Dominic Hough has devised a simple “3-in-1″ formula. The complete Beginners Bible to Making, Marketing and Selling your own Techno Tracks…easy, simple and it works. rhinestones
